The prepared environment
Materials sit on open shelves, at eye level and within reach. Everything has its place, and that order gives the child confidence.
The uninterrupted work cycle
Around three hours of unbroken work time every morning. Deep focus develops only in time that is not cut short.
Mixed-age classes
Older children show the younger ones, and younger children watch the older ones. Learning moves around the room.
The observing teacher
The teacher is in the classroom, not in front of it. Present a lesson, step back, observe and take notes.
Practical life
Laying the table, watering a plant, tying a shoe. Independence begins with small tasks.
